Scattered like gemstones on azure waters between 4 and 10 degrees south of the equator, the Seychelles Islands lie between 480km and 1,600km from the east coast of Africa in a pristine corner of the western Indian Ocean still wonderfully untouched by man.
Of a total of 115 islands, 41 Inner Islands constitute the oldest mid-oceanic granite islands on earth, while an additional 74 isles form 5 groups of low-lying coral atolls, reef islets and sand cays which are the Outer Islands.
Seychelles is home to no less than two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of these national treasures, the Vallée de Mai located on Praslin Island, is believed to be the original site of the Garden of Eden and is home to the Coco-de-mer nut, the largest and most extraordinary of its kind. The second World Heritage Site, legendary Aldabra, is the worlds’ largest raised coral atoll and a protected sanctuary for a wealth of rare flora and fauna.
A year-round destination located outside of the cyclone belt, the Seychelles Islands are blessed with a near perfect climate with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 32°C and with no extreme weather conditions.
This unique blend of granitic and coralline islands provides each island with its own special topography and character. Many are home to unique flora and fauna found there and nowhere else while each one has its own particular history and story to tell. At the present time, 16 islands offer accommodation ranging from the luxury of 5-star resorts and elite island hideaways to the authentic charms of rustic lodges and quaint small hotels, guesthouses and self-catering establishments.
